Instructions for the NanoNano system

Welcome!
Thank you for purchasing a NanoNano system! All proceeds go toward our horse rescue, Haven Equus.
Our NanoNano systems are created here in Mariposa, CA.
We breed our own shrimp and snails, as well as cultivate our plants here, in the wonderful Sierra mountains.

Place NanoNano in bright, INDIRECT light.

DO NOT PLACE IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT

Light allows algea to grow, 

which is what the animals eat. Your NanoNano should receive 6+ hours

 of bright light per day. 

If you notice algea on the glass, you are getting plenty of light. 

If the algea growth is heavy, there is too much light, and you will need 

to move the NanoNano to a less brightly lit area for a while to let the animals catch up and eat the excess.

Do NOT let the algea grow too much, as heavy algea

growth will change the pH balance in the NanoNano.

Keep your NanoNano in room temperatures between 60° 

and 80° F.  

Do NOT place your NanoNano on televisions, stereo equipment, 

fireplace mantels, near heating radiators, computer equipment, 

or anywhere it could get jostled or shaken.

Do NOT remove the  top of your NanoNano,  Do NOT feed the animals.feed the animals or change the water.

It is a 100% self sustaining ecosystem.

Do NOT add water to the NanoNano. The water inside is the ideal pH.

Water with different pH balance could change the delicate

balance of the ecosystem, and cause failure.

If the water gets very cloudy, take the top off

of your NanoNano, and sniff the water. If there

is a noticably disagreeable smell, the system has failed.

WHAT IS IN THE NanoNano?

The NanoNano contains shrimp, one snail,  plants,

manzanita, a fluvial and a calcium substrate.

All of the surfaces are places where 

micro-organisms and algae can attach themselves. 

The Manzanita branch keeps bacteria growth in check as well as

providing a fungus that shrimp love.

The substrate provides calcium and minerals the animals require 

for a heathy shell/exoskeleton. It also provides a rooting structure 

for the plants.

HOW DOES THE NanoNano WORK?

The NanoNano works on energy. It is a small 

biological battery, storing light energy converted biochemically. 

Light, together with carbon dioxide 

in the water, enables the algae to produce oxygen. 

The shrimp breathe oxygen in the water and eat the algae and

decaying plant matter. 

The snail eats biofilm, plant matter and algea, as well 

as any mineral buildup on the glass. The snail breaths air, and has 

a set of gills.

Waste matter is converted into food for the plants.

Bacteria break down the animal waste into nutrients which the mosses

and algae utilize. The shrimp, snail and bacteria also give off carbon 

dioxide that the algae use to produce oxygen.

DO THE ANIMALS AND PLANTS REPRODUCE?

Both the shrimp and snail need tropical temperature water

in order to reproduce. The snail may lay eggs on the branch, 

which look like tiny rice grains, but they will not hatch.

The plants may clone themselves.

HOW LONG WILL THEY LIVE?

The animals will live anywhere from 1-3 years.

CLEANING YOUR NanoNano

Wipe outside with soft towel and water.

Do NOT attempt to clean the inside!

WHAT IS THAT THING?

Occasionally, you may notice something odd in your

NanoNano.

The pale shrimp-like objects sometimes seen lying 

on the bottom of the NanoNano are exoskeletons. 

Shrimp wear their bones on the outside. As the shrimp

 grows, it moults it's old skin.

After the old exoskeleton is shed a new one expands 

and hardens. The shrimp will eat the shed exoskeleton.

You may see runners of mucus from the snail's meanderings.

The shrimp love this protein treat! It should dissipate 

within a few days.

WHAT IF THE SHRIMP OR SNAIL DIES?

 The most common causes for shrimp and snail 

death is too high a temperature or too 

much direct sunlight.

 Your NanoNano has a 6 month warranty. Should

the system fail, contact us and we will replace it 

FREE OF CHARGE. 

NanoNano REPLACEMENT POLICY

If the shrimp or snail should die within the 6 month Replacement Policy 

period, which begins at the time of purchase, NanoNano Inc.

 will replace the unit free of charge.
